DART - Drug and Alcohol Resistance Team
Statement of Purpose
We are a community action group made up of parents, school personnel, local police and local government officials, interested citizens and youth, regardless of age, organized for the express purpose of preventing drug and alcohol abuse among the youth in the community. DART's goals are to promote awareness of the problem, to establish guidelines for parents, to alert parents and students to symptoms of drug and alcohol abuse and to provide information on alternatives along with referrals for professional assistance.
Dart Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary
For 22 years Souderton Area Drug and Alcohol Resistance Team (D.A.R.T.) has served as an advocate for the drug- and alcohol-free lifestyle for teens. This coalition of school district, police and community members strives to support youth anti-drug/alcohol efforts and to educate the public about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.
In recent years, D.A.R.T. has also looked at the issue of youth violence and bullying as risk factors in terms of drug and alcohol abuse.
Parents, community members, business leaders and other interested individuals are invited to become a part of an organization that is dedicated to combating drug and alcohol abuse among area youth.
Souderton Area D.A.R.T. meetings are scheduled bi-monthly at 4:00p.m. on the third Monday of the month (unless otherwise noted) from September to June at the Souderton Area District Office, 760 Lower Road, Souderton.
D.A.R.T. concentrates on fund raising to support programs such as Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Just Say No Clubs, and the Character Counts Coalition. In addition, the members strive to bring quality educational programs into the school district for both youth and parent groups. The purpose of D.A.R.T. is to provide the youth of the community information necessary to resist peer pressure. For more information call Tom Haney at 215-256-9500 or Barbara Hewlett at 215-256-6633.
